An Advance Medical Directive ("AMD") is a directive that you issue in advance to any doctor who may be treating you in the future, that if you are ever terminally ill and unconscious, and death is imminent, your doctor is not to administer life-sustaining treatment which would artificially extend your life.
An AMD cannot be made by anyone other than you, personally (even if you have appointed, or in the future appoint, a donee under a Lasting Power of Attorney). If you want to make an AMD, the best time to do so is now, while you are lucid. |
